Megan Lee
Megan, age 13, was killed by a red light runner on June 23, 2009 while crossing the street, in a crosswalk at 59th Ave. & Mohawk in Glendale near her home. She was an avid Phoenix Coyotes hockey fan and was looking forward to her freshman year at Mountain Ridge High School.
Sarah Elizabeth Wintz
Sarah, a 17 year old senior at Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix, was killed by a red light runner on December 2, 2003 at the intersection of Pecos Road and 40th Street. Her boyfriend suffered traumatic brain injury and other serious injuries that have changed his life.
Michael Allanson
Michael, 14, was hit by an 82 yr old red light runner on August 28, 2004 while crossing the street in a crosswalk at 64th St. and McKellips. Michael died of his injuries.
Billy Canfield
Billy Canfield, 17, a Chandler High School senior died November 22, 2002. Billy survived eight open heart surgeries, to be killed by a red light runner at the intersection of Evergreen St. and Warner Rd. while on his school lunch break.
Mary Napoleon
Mary 43, wife and mother was killed by a red light runner at 5:50am on April 26, 1983, at the intersection of 24th Street and Thomas in Phoenix. Mary was on her way to work.
Katie Hodge & Blake Cash
Katie and her 17 month old son Blake were hit by a red light runner on February 18, 2000 at the intersection of Cave Creek and Grovers. Katie suffered traumatic brain injury and was in a coma for a week. Blake died of his injuries.
Anthony Gaddy
Anthony 19, was killed on November 29, 1999 by a red light runner at the intersection of 33rd Ave and Bell Rd. Anthony was on his way to Flagstaff to visit his parents.
Nelson & Andrea Taylor
Father and daughter, Nelson & Andrea Taylor were hit by a red light runner on Thanksgiving Day 2006 in Austin, TX. Nelson had picked up Andrea at college and they were returning home for Thanksgiving. They were both killed. Mary Taylor, Nelson’s wife and Andrea’s mother has joined Red Means Stop as the Texas State Chapter President.
Kathy Cook
Kathy Cook (left in photo) was waiting to cross a Seattle, WA street June 19, 2007, when a young man driving a work truck ran the red light and collided with a front-loader. The truck careened into the pedestrians waiting to cross the street. Kathy Cook was killed instantly. Kathy’s daughter, Lori Koidahl has joined Red Means Stop as the Washington State Chapter President.
Shaun Doss
Shaun and his family were hit by a red light runner on May 15, 2007 at the intersection of Cooper and Germann in Gilbert, Az. Shaun suffered brain and internal injuries and is now confined to a wheel chair. Shaun’s grandparents, Pamela and Ty Woods have joined Red Means Stop to help spread the word about the consequences of red light running.
Krystal Philippi
Krystal 17, was seriously injured on April 25, 1998 by a red light runner, while on the way to her high school prom. She suffered traumatic brain injury and was in a coma for 10 weeks. Krystal continues to battle the affects of her brain injury with assistance from the Brain Injury Association of Arizona.
Jennifer Hinds
Jennifer 17, a senior at Ironwood High School, died March 16, 1997 from injuries suffered March 10, 1997 in a crash caused by a red light runner. Jennifer and 3 friends were hit at the intersection of 59th Ave and Sweetwater in Glendale, in front of the high school. Jennifer was looking forward to attending Northern Arizona University, majoring in Fashion Design and Marketing.
“Jennifer’s Law” was passed by the Arizona Legislature in 1998 to strengthen red light running penalties. The law, ARS28-672, has been amended twice since its passage.
